What is Homes for Autism’s Annual Charity Walk?

The Walk for Autism is a family-friendly event which — through the support of participants’ fundraising commitments — supports Homes for Autism’s charitable mission in our local Southeast Michigan community.

Participants are welcome to take the walk at their own pace … sprint, walk, run or roll! The event is all about enjoying ourselves in a safe environment and enjoying supporting a great cause!

Are pets allowed?

No. Although we love pets, due to event logistics, safety and the ensuring the comfortable participation for all who join us, pets cannot be involved on the day of the event. Still, we are happy to say that you will see many animals while walking — after all, there are lots of furry friends at The Detroit Zoo!

Of course — as always — service animals are welcomed guests!

Is this a child-friendly event?

Absolutely, children are welcome! The Detroit Zoo is an amazing location, which can truly be enjoyed by people of all ages. Accordingly, everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy all that The Detroit Zoo has to offer until park closing time.

Given the expectation for a large turn-out and our encouragement that everyone enjoy the walk at their own pace, we respectfully ask that participants with strollers be considerate of other walkers who may wish to take a brisker pace.

Where do my donations go?

Your donations and 100% of the event proceeds will benefit Homes for Autism. Homes for Autism provides and maintains houses for adults with autism (ASD) and developmental disabilities.

For more information visit Homes for Autism.

How much does it cost for me to attend?

Though technically there is no “registration” or “entrance” fee for Homes for Autism’s Annual Charity Walk, we respectfully ask for everyone’s understanding of participant fundraising commitments: the recommended average-per-person fundraising amount is $100 or more.

Additionally, due to committed event costs, there is a minimum required fundraising amount of $40 per event participant in order to gain entrance into the Detroit Zoo and join the walk.

Can I bring a stroller?

Yes, strollers and small ones are welcome!

When and where does the walk start?

Check-in and registration begins at 7 a.m. and the walk will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. The Detroit Zoo is conveniently located at Woodward and I-696 10 Mile. Upon entering The Detroit Zoo there will be signs and friendly volunteers to direct you.

What time does the walk event end?

Homes for Autism’s Charity Walk will end approximately at 10:30 am; however, it depends upon how quickly individual participants wish to walk the route and how long people wish to stay following the walk.

Upon completing the walk at their leisure, all event participants are welcome to stay and enjoy the Zoo until park closure. So come out, support a great cause and experience a wonderful day at The Detroit Zoo!
